Anti-Bullying
Bullying, especially race-related, is more common than many think. Yet, many people are unfamiliar with procedures for reporting bullying or dealing with it. The Chinese American community, particularly recent arrivals, are disproportionately affected. In addition, immigrant communities face language and cultural barriers when faced with bullying incidents. CAPA-MC strives to educate the community with impacts of bullying, relevant MCPS policies, and reporting procedures.
In the 2017, CAPA-MC has assisted numerous families who were victims of bullying, but didn’t know, or were afraid to report . In November of the same year, CAPA-MC hosted a “Back Off” anti-bullying/harassment workshop to provide both parents and students with effective strategies to confront and avoid bullying.
CAPA-MC continues to work with MCPS’ Office of Family and Student Engagement and affected MCPS families on this issue.
